A versatile ingredient often used as an acne treatment and exfoliant. Also known as Beta Hydroxy Acid. Has wide ranging uses in cosmetic formulations.
| Extended Information | As an exfoliant, it is used in concentrations up to 2%. In wart-removal medications, it is used at inclusion levels from 8 - 12%. Salicylic Acid is supplied as a 99.0% min. powder. In the EU you’re allowed to use a maximum of 3% in rinse-off hair products and 2% in all other products and should not be used in products for children under the age of 3. Common ways to dissolve it are using ethanol, IPA or glycols like butyl glycol, you’ll potentially need up to a 1:5 ratio of solvent. Salicylic acid can be incorporated in to scrub products up to 2% or in leave-on creams etc. It has been used at 1.5-2.0% for anti-acne products. |
