Ferula Galbaniflua, Origin: Iran
Galbanum is a fragrant gum resin that forms as a product of certain Persian plant species. Galbanum may vary in appearance, but typically it looks like translucent lumps of irregular hardness and colour. The shade may vary from yellowish or light-brown to green. The taste of galbanum is bitter and it smells somewhat musky, even though its green aroma usually dominates.
More Information
Extended Information Records show that both the ancient Egyptians and Romans used galbanum oil for medicinal purposes; in addition, use of galbanum is mentioned in the Bible. However, galbanum essential oil is not as popular in aromatherapy use today as some of the other ancient oils. Galbanum may help with abscesses, acne, asthma, bronchitis, chronic coughs, cramps, cuts, indigestion, inflammation, muscular aches and pains, nervous tension, poor circulation, rheumatism, scar tissue, stress, wrinkles, and wounds.
